The Paramount Chief of the Buipe traditional area of Gonja, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor (II) has been sworn into office as the board member of Ghana Prison’s Council.

These is the second time the Buipewura is serving as a member of the Prisons Board for Prisons council after serving the board of 2017 to 2020.
The Vice President of the Republic Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a short inaugural ceremony held in Accra on Tuesday, 9th November 2021, swore into office the 13-member Governing Council of the Ghana Prisons Service with the Catholic Bishop for the Damongo Diocese, Most Rev Peter Paul Angkyier as it’s Chairman.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in an address charged the Council, led by Most Rev Peter Paul Yelezuome Angkyier, the Minister for the Interior, Hon Ambrose Dery, and Buipe-Wura Mahama Abdulai Jinapor II, to be mindful of the rise in population and the increasing trend of crime, and take steps towards transforming the prisons into centres of reformation and rehabilitation.

He further reiterated Government’s commitment to the passage of the Prisons Bill, and that Government will work with all stakeholders to both re-tool the Prisons Service and work towards the introduction of non-custodial sentencing alternatives to decongest the prisons.
