A Non Governmental Organisation Marie Stopes International Ghana has on 14th July, 2020 donated Personal Protective Equipments (PPE’s) to Friend’s Maternity Home at Sawla in the Savannah Region.

Mr Abdul – Latif Yakubu a Bluestar Business Development Officer who works with Marie Stopes International Ghana in an interview with Bole based Nkilgi FM during the donation said Marie Stopes International Ghana has a core mandate of providing family planning and other sexual reproductive health services to the people of Sawla and it’s environs as partners over five years today.

“We feel that during times of COVID-19 when things are difficult, we have to also come and lend our stretching hand so that we can also support them to provide a safe space for both themselves ( health personnels) and their clients”; Mr Yakubu explained.

He added that Marie Stopes International Ghana felt there is a need in supporting Friend’s Maternity Home in Sawla to help safeguard its clients who come from different places to access health care prevent COVID-19, hence supplying PPE’s that comprise 50 Face masks, 4 Cans of Liquid soap, 4 Cans of Hand Sanitizer and 10 packs of Tissue papers.

Mr Abdul – Latif Yakubu mentioned that, their support is not only to Friend’s Maternity Home in Sawla but other health facilities in Ghana both private and public but in Savannah Region they have only partnered with only the Friend’s Maternity Home in Sawla.

The Manager of Friend’s Maternity Home, Mr Mahama Zakaria on behalf of the Director Hajia Kansawurche Azara Bukari who was on a busy schedule elsewhere recommended Marie Stopes International Ghana for their support for providing them with PPE’s.

Mr Zakariah said they have worked with Marie Stopes International Ghana for a long time and since the start of the Corona virus pandemic, it has been a problem to many institutions getting PPE’s to fight the sickness but their partner donor did well in supplying them some of the PPE’s.

“Marie Stopes International Ghana have supported us with some PPE’s and we are still urging the general public and philanthropist to also help us with more PPE’s as those at hand wouldn’t last for three months”; said Mr Zakariah.

He added that Friend’s Maternity Home in Sawla has been in existence for long having been operating for over 30 years and has provided many services to the people of Sawla and beyond with people from some communities of the Bole District also patronising the Friend’s Maternity Home on Sawla for health care.

Mahama Zakaria also disclosed that many nursing and midwifery students had their hand practicals through Friend’s Maternity Home after completing their studies in the various institutions and the experience they got helped them to get jobs.
