A number of the leading Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have become hot and jittery and frantically defending government over a list of 88 District Hospitals to be constructed across the 16 Regions in Ghana by President Akufo-Addo’s government.

The list released by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and signed by the Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama contains list of District Hospitals to be built by government across Ghana but the only Region left out is the Savannah Region.

Social media especially Savannah Region based WhatsApp groups have been boiling over the list with the NPP government recieving serious bashing from National Democratic Congress(NDC) members.

Minister of the Savannah Region and Member of Parliament for the Salaga South Constituency Hon Salifu Adam Braimah speaking on an Accra based Radio station (Hot Fm) on the issue said President Nana Akufo-Addo promised 88 District Hospitals and for whatever reason a letter came up without Savannah Region. He said he believes it is someone’s oversight and that the mistake will be corrected.

He said he verified from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in Accra and was told the original letter will come out with the name of Kpalbe in the North East Gonja District and Daboya in the North Gonja District.

An NPP kin pin in the Savannah Region who is the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Dr Braimah Clifford had to come out to say that there are two districts in Savannah without district hospitals and they cannot be left out. He disclosed that the list has been corrected and a release will come out today 19th May, 2020.

“We have two districts in Savannah without district hospitals and they cannot be left out. It has been corrected and a release will come out tomorrow” Dr Braimah Clifford said.

The Chief Executive for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly Mr Muhazu Jibril Saeed and also came with a write up that the Savannah Region has two Districts without District Hospitals, namely; North East Gonja District with Kpalbe as it’s capital and North Gonja District with Daboya as it’s capital and that these two districts will be beneficiaries of government’s “one district one district hospital” program.

The MCE said, the region will be a beneficiary of an ultra modern regional hospital to be situated in Damongo, the regional capital and the other Districts in Savannah Region either have existing hospitals or ongoing construction of hospitals.

“Very clearly, the omission of these districts from Savannah and other parts of the country were as a result of the printers devil and not deliberate. I’m reliably informed the list will be rationalized and updated today; Mr Jibril said.

The West Gonja MCE futher said; “as righty stated by the President in his broadcast to the nation, all regions of Ghana are to benefit from this massive and ambitious health infrastructure investment, Savannah Region firmly included”.

“Disregard the propaganda by those who had the highest authority of our country but did very little for us” he concluded.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bole Madam Veronica Alele Heming said someone played mischief with the list and that riginal one has Daboya and Kpalbe as District capitals to benefit.

Many things seem to be working against NPP in the Savannah Region this past few days.

Many in the Region recently took to social media to lament on the sentencing of a Traditional Gonja Chief and former Deputy National Secirity Coordinator Dinipowura Alhaji Osman Salifu Mimina and just when the issue is dying down another issue of the ommission of the Savannah Region in the list of hospitals popped up.

The NDC in the Savannah Region after the purported list of hospitals came up has since given the NPP government 48 hours to reinstate the publicly declared hospitals President Akufo-Addo said he will built in the Region or else the next line of hard action will be taken.

A statement issued today 19th May, 2020 and signed by the NDC Communication Officer for the Savannah Region Mr Malik Basintale said the NDC in the region have taken notice of yet another denial of their share of the national cake from a very crucial sector such as the health sector even when President Akufo-Addo bamboozled the Region into believing they were part of the beneficiaries on the 26th April, 2020 in his address to the nation.
